Do you fancy building drones?

10361124614 f36ef5032e 1One of the outcomes from last weekends Oggcamp - if you missed it catch it next year - is that a new group is being set up on Merseyside to look at building drones. No not for crusing the city and spying on us - well not yet anyway but as a way of honing engineering skills and inspiring other people to build their own projects.

As MIke McDaid who attended Oggcamp and was inspired ot set up the group said.

"I attended an OggCamp talk at weekend, on building a tricopter drone by Alex Willmer @moreati.  Talking with fellow attendees, there seems to be many people who are interested in everything drones. In fact there appears to be a fair level of expertise already in the city."

So even though he has no knowledge of drone related stuff apart from watching the odd youtube video, he has decided to start a Liverpool drone meetup.

He goes on to say "This will involve in the first few meetings of having people who have experience of making and flying drones come and give a talk. Later hopefully we can start building and flying these machines. There are plenty of open source designs available already and a decent sized tri/quad copters capable of carrying a camera can be built for under £200. "

To proceed the group needs a meeting place and a time and Adrian McEwen has stepped forward to offer the use of DoES LIverpool, the Liverpool Maker Space. Looking into the DoES calendar it appears that the third Tuesday of month spot is available so continue to check that.

So if you are interested in Building Drones or giving a talk on how to do it then get onto the Does Liverpool Mailing list. I'm sure this group is going to fly.

The first meeting has been announced as 7pm on Tuesday 19th November at Does Liverpool.
