clapperboardWith award-winning Liverpool writer Jimmy McGovern and producer Sally Hibbin in attendance, Clapperboard presents... Dockers on Monday 16 April at Picturehouse@fact, 88 Wood Street, L1 4DQ

Dockers, a Channel Four productioncowritten by award winning Liverpool writer Jimmy McGovern and Scottish novelist Irvine Welsh, produced by award-winning producer Sally Hibbin and stars Ricky Tomlinson (The Royale Family, Brookside), Crissy Rock(Ladybird, Ladybird, Benidorm) and Ken Stott (The Runaway, Hancock & Joan).

Dockers, is a story based on the twenty-eight months of struggle for re-instatement by dock-workers and their families, who suffered and discovered both hardship and strength as they fought against dismissal by the Mersey Docks & Harbour Company (MDHC).

The writers allowed their own ’five minutes experience’ – which was in truth over twenty years of direct employment – to be shaped and structured by TV scriptwriter Jimmy McGovern and Scottish writer Irvin Welsh, into a television drama. Here was a unique opportunity for a group of workers to write and show the nation their own story of defeat and its reasons, in dramatic form. Stories of family stress, division and death, the involvement of dock-workers wives and partners are all interwoven into the performance.

Jimmy McGovern said... “I’m a great admirer of Maureen Sinclair and what she has achieved through her dedication and commitment to the Clapperboard Youth Project, with very little funding.  It’s a wonderful creative way of empowering young people and giving them an opportunity that most of us never had”.

Sally Hibbin is an award winning producer which accolades a career of 30 years.  Awards include Riff-Raff which won Best Film at the European Film Awards in 1991.  She has also produced many distinguished British independent films and some outstanding television, most of it characterised by a strong commitment to left wing and socially progressive causes.  As a producer she has also won a BAFTA award for TV drama A Very British Coup, which won Best Drama Series in 1998.

Sally Hibbin said... "It's a pleasure to return to Liverpool to participate in a screening of Dockers which will be a fundraiser for Clapperboard, as I remember Maureen organising first charity premiere in 1999 which was a huge success".

Clapperboard Presents… is an exciting initiative re-visiting and celebrating the groundbreaking work of award-winning artists including: Alison Steadman, Chris Eccleston, Ian Hart, Dave Morrissey, Crissy Rock, Tina Malone, and many more professionals from in front and behind the camera. Income raised from this event will go towards the Clapperboard Youth Project.

Tickets are £12 (£9 concs), which includes a complimentary drink after the screening. Tickets are available from FACT Box Office.
