Liverpool SciBar – tonight 5th March 2013

13-03March's SciBar in Liverpool will be given by Professor Martyn Amos of Manchester Metropolitan University. Martyn's talk is called "Genesis Machines: Biological Computers and Synthetic Biology".

Biology is now a science of information. The flood of data from various genome sequencing projects means that we now have unprecedented access to nature's toolbox. Some scientists are now piecing together these genetic fragments to build a new generation of organic devices. In this talk, Martyn will present the past, present and (possible) future of the twin fields of bio-computing and synthetic biology, exciting new areas of research that are opening up the possibility of truly living technology.

Speaker bio:

Martyn Amos is Professor of Novel Computation at Manchester Metropolitan University, and the author of Genesis Machines: The New Science of Biocomputing (Atlantic, 2006). His website is at http://www.martynamos.com/

Come along on Tuesday 5th March at 7:30pm to the Ship and Mitre and find out more. As always the audience will be welcome to give their own opinions and ask questions.

Remember there's no such thing as a silly question at SciBar!
