carnivalesque_-a6flierfront_final13sep20111From 1999-2004 Carnival Liverpool was a night of clubbing rarity, enticing hundreds of would-be partygoers from all corners of Liverpool into a cavernous and darkly absurd extravaganza hosted deep within the walls at Nation. Enticed through the streets in a pied piper style parade party goers were seduced by the rhythms of the Liverpool Samba School drummers urging them to follow a parade of dancers, fire eaters and stilt walkers into the carnival where heavy Latin rhythms were the bedrock for a night of fun and frivolity.

Now for 2011, carnival creators extraordinaire Roger & Maeve Morris founders of the ‘The Liverpool Carnival Company’ and the ‘Brazilica Festival’, together with Audio Voyeur, co-organiser and resident DJ of the ‘Misturado Collective’ have joined forces to reintroduce Carnival to a new generation of enjoyment seekers.

‘Carnivalesque’ brings together the mysterious and unique anything goes ethos behind the original Carnival events and twists them into a modern day extravaganza of music, mayhem and parody, drawing the audience into a world where being there is being seen and being seen is all just part of the act.

The first monthly event takes place upstairs at LEAF on Bold Street on Friday 7th October, to the live intoxicating rhythms of the Hat Band and exotic beats of DJ’s Roger Conga and Audio Voyeur; mixing Latin, Afrobeat, House, Funk, Dubstep and beyond. ‘Carnivalesque’ invites one and all to dress up, dress down, be themselves or be someone else, encouraging a festivity of anti-hierarchical, enjoyment seeking sensibilities (and with the forthcoming November 5th event billed as “Something Wicked This Way Comes”) ‘Carnivalesque’ is a monthly event not to be missed for those seeking an alternative to the norm.

‘Carnivalesque’ is a night of musical wonderment and visual oddities serving up the weird and the wonderful, the ridiculous and the sublime.

Dress up, dress down, be yourself, be someone else...join the carnival arena to see or be the spectacle. Act up, act down or act just the clown! With irresistible sounds, costumes of odd refinement and fine-feathered dancers, ‘Carnivalesque’ beckons one and all to join in the festivities! Abnormal service will resume Friday 7th October @ Leaf on Bold Street 8.30 ‘til late - £5 on the door
