zig-lennon-suite-300x225Legendary photographer Bill Zygmant, famed for his images of musicians and celebrities including The Beatles, Bee Gees and Jimi Hendrix, wiil be showcasing his collection of photographs from next week at Penny Lane Gallery.

His images of celebrities, taken from the sixties onwards, are some of the definitive shots of the music industry. He took the first pictures of John Lennon and Yoko Ono months before the official announcement of their relationship.  His photographs have appeared in the Musical Express, Billboard, Picture Post as well as national newspapers and magazines.  At the Hard Days Night Hotel in Liverpool there’s a suite named in his honour in recognition of his iconic Beatle images.

Bill’s passion for photography started at an early age seeing press photographers on newsreels photographing film stars.  Bill got a job as a paper boy to enable him to purchase his first camera and spent most of his leisure hours looking for good photo opportunities, local rock & roll groups and interesting people before beginning his career at the London Star.  He then went on to work at the News Chronicle in Fleet Street – first on the picture desk and then in the darkroom.

The exhibtion opens on Friday 17th at Penny lane Gallery on Penny Lane.
