First government funded music rehearsal space opens in Liverpool
Written by Defnet MediaThe Department for Culture, Media and Sport has opened the first government funded professionally equipped music rehearsal space in the country, at the Knotty Ash Youth and Community Centre in Liverpool. This two music rooms will enable young bands to practice.
Culture Secretary Andy Burnham commented 'The rehearsal spaces at Knotty Ash are a fantastic new resource, providing a great leisure facility for young people and the chance to get experience in a whole range of areas that might lead to a career in the creative industries. This is just the beginning. Spaces owned by local authorities around the country are being transformed with Government money, and member companies of the Music Industries Association have been very generous in providing cut price instruments.'Singsongs.com - A world wide creative business, born on the Wirral.

The project has the full support of Liverpool City Council, Liverpool Football Club, Hillsborough Family Support Group and the former players association 'Liverpool Legends'.
Centrifuge Manchester open call for Muscians
Written by Defnet MediaOctober 2008 witnessed a new venture from the Frakture organisation called Centrifuge. Centrifuge aims to provide a new opportunity in the North West for musicians, artists and listeners to meet, perform and share. Frakture administrator Phil Morton observes
“That within an hours drive of Manchester there are many musicians from the free improvised music (and associated leaning) who generally do not meet, mix and play on a regular basis: or so it seems. Somehow geography, boundaries keep us apart, where-as in London the same distances either measured in miles /or time travelled doesn’t keep artists apart; i.e. there is more of a mixing up and playing together.
Frakture were pleased, with the responses to the Centrifuge concept, and the first Centrifuge Concert was booked for October 30th, the concert featured musicians from across the region, including Liverpool, Sheffield, Barrow, Buxton and Warrington. On the night they combined in small groupings to deliver a contrasting programme of creative new music. See website to listen to the audio.
Frakture are confident that Centrifuge will become a force pulling together creative artists in the northwest region and provide a rich palette of sounds and music for the listener.

Evidently Chickensounds: The John Cooper Clarke Project – Calling all bands and poets
Fat Northerner Records are working with a group of Manchester creatives to run a new project inspired by the work of John Cooper Clarke. The label is developing projects to re-work John Cooper Clarke’s poetry and music involving exceptional musicians and spoken word artists. These tracks will be recorded and released on a limited edition vinyl record in 2009, to celebrate 50 years of John Cooper Clarke.
So far we’ve got the following artists - Chas Smash (Madness), Roland Hartwell (The Icelandic Symphony Orchestra) and a UK grime artist, The Cribs, Reverend and The Makers, Matt Berry (The IT Crowd, The Mighty Boosh), Maximo Park, Denis Jones, Bone-Box, Shit Disco, The Longcut, Ladytron, Lil’ Fee (The Whip), Kings Have Long Arms, The Ironweed Project, Orphan Boy, Frazer King plus more.
A collection of the sound of Dripping water.
Artists Alan Dunn and Jeff Young have put together this audio Collection in response to the strange follies that are Liverpool’s Williamson Tunnels, where dripping water can be heard but rarely seen. The double-CD set explores artists’ uses of the sound of dripping water from 1916 to the present, and combines works of historical importance with newly composed pieces. Produced in a limited edition of 1,000, the Collection will be given away free of charge, primarily to Tunnel visitors.
A short tour of the Soundtrack for a Mersey Tunnel

I had originally planned to conduct an audio interview with Alan and cut it into highlights of the tracks but never found the time.

Mugstar have been of the most incendiary devices Liverpool has produced for a couple of years now and like a car bomb in Tuebrook there is no telling when they might explode. A devoted group of fans has recognised their frenetic, smouldering and sussed rock fury as the most exhilarating noise the city can make and with their live performances starting to get ecstatic responses and a John Peel session about to hit our brains a change in their profile seems to be coming sooner than they expected.
