The Co-operative is bringing to life the film Burma VJ in the UK.
Burma VJ is a powerful and compelling first hand account of the 2007 uprisings in Burma and the subsequent harsh retaliation by the state, and includes never-before-seen footage shot illegally by video journalists, or VJs, using concealed cameras. It is a moving account of a new breed of young VJs who are prepared to risk their liberty, and even their lives, to tell their story. See: www.burmavjmovie.com.
The film will be premiered at the BAFTA in London, and satellite broadcast to 40 cinemas across the country. Speakers include Vivienne Westwood, fashion designer and human rights campaigner, Film Maker Anders Ostergaard, a representative from the Democratic Voice of Burma and Mark Farmaner from Burma Campaign UK. Paul Monaghan from The Co-operative will compere the discussion. Attendees are being encouraged to wear the colour saffron to symbolise their support for the monks, journalists and general public who took part in the Saffron Revolution.
Your support for this film at this time is crucial, with Aung San Suu Kyi, leader of the democratic opposition in Burma, currently on trial, and with elections due to take place in 2010. Book your tickets and start sign up to the Free the VJs campaign now at www.burmavjmovie.com.

The Road
Coming up at FACT, Liverpool this weekend.
The Road
, set in post apocalyptic America stars Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron and is an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s Pulitzer winning novel. It's the story of an unnamed man and his son as they walk through the dark wasteland that once was and their struggle for survival against all odds including the odd cannibal or two.
It sounds thoroughly depressing, perfect after a week of heavy snow and bleakness.
